We Are In The Final

Blue

Zij wonnen in de eerste wedstrijd vroeg in den middag down town Kadir Has Sports Hall

Hosts In Final Behind 2nd Quarter Rally
7. Dwight Hardy (TS Medical Park)

EuroChallenge Final Four hosts Trabzonspor Medical Parkoutscored Energia Targu-Jiu 22-4 in the later stretch of the second quarter to clinch a 83-63 win in Friday's Semi-Final and advance into the title game.

TURNING POINT: After Energia had claimed their biggest lead, 27-17, with 7:39 remaining to the half-time buzzer, Dwight Hardydrilled back-to-back triples from the right corner and then finished off a back-door pass by Andrija Stipanovic with a lay-up to instigate the 8-0 Trabzonspor run that changed the direction of the game.

GAME HERO: Dwight Hardy scored nine of Trabzonspor's 17 points in the opening quarter as the hosts' only viable offensive option and erupted in the second period to inspire their big rally, adding another 13 points on flawless long-range shooting. He finished with a game-high 29 points on 8 out of 12 from the floor.

STATS DON'T LIE: Trabzonspor dominated the glass and out-rebounded Energia 42-19, while to make matters even worse the only two of the Romanian team's boards came on the offensive end, turning the chase for vital second-chance points into an impossible mission.

Whoever thought that Energia would be content for their historical dream ride in this year's EuroChallenge to come to an abrupt end in the Semi-Final, was deeply surprised early on in Friday's late evening clash in Trabzon.
The Romanian side executed their defensive plan masterfully during the opening quarter, slowed down the pace and took the game to long possessions and their 22-17 lead at the end of the first quarter even felt short.
When Andreas Glyniadakis split two free-throws to make it 27-17 for the Romanian side 7:39 from the second buzzer, Hardy decided bold steps were needed for his team to overcome opening- night jitters.
"Sometimes it happens that you start bad, but it's important to finish strong and that's what we did today," Hardy told fibaeurope.com afterwards.
He drilled a triple with 6:29 left in the period to spark Trabzonspor's reaction and get the raucous local crowd going.
With Nemanja Milosevic in foul trouble and Trabzonspor using a new-found determination on defence, Energia struggled to find any decent looks and scored only four points in the remainder of the first half.
Trabzonspor took advantage and with 1:20 left to the interval, Stipanovic handed off to Hardy and set a screen, for the American guard to hit another three from the corner and lift the hosts' lead to 35-31.
"My team-mates trusted me, they know I am a big-time scorer, and the atmosphere and the crowd got me going, so I hit those shots," Hardy said.
As if that was not enough, Hardy drew a foul as Trabzonspor's last possession was running out and sunk both free-throws to send the hosts into the locker rooms with an 39-31 lead.
The 6,650-strong crowd at Hayri Gur arena had witnessed total recall.
Trabzonspor quickly raised the gap to double digits after the break but Watson drilled a long three with 4:29 left in the third period to reduce to 46-38 and give the Romanian team a glimmer of hope.
With 13 seconds left to the end of the third, Tal Karpelesz stole the ball and finished in transition, to reduce to 55-49, also drawing the foul.
He missed the free-throw however and, in the best possible scenario for the hosts, Sean Marshall hit a triple on the other end, just at the buzzer, to restore the gap to 58-49.
Energia would never come so close again.
Two consecutive baskets from down low followed by two free-throws by Kaloyan Ivanov put the hosts up 68-54 with 6:52 left to play.
Watson replied almost immediately with a long three-pointer to cut the deficit to 68-57.
But, once again, Marshall once again came up with a dagger three and instigated an 8-0 run which would put the result beyond doubt, as Stipanovic made it 76-57 with a dunk 2:53 from the final buzzer.
For the hosts, Marshall finished with 15 points while Stipanovic had 12 points and seven rebounds.
For Energia, Giordan Watson collected 15 points and four assists while Lamont Mack added 14 points, in losing efforts
Trabzonspor will now face JSF Nanterre for the crown on Sunday.
"They are really a great team, I can't wait to play them," Hardy said.
So do the local fans in Trabzon, who will return in force for the big game.

Quotes: Energia vs. TS Medical Park
Antonis Constantinides, Energia Targu-Jiu Head Coach
"Congratulations to Trabzonspor on a fair win tonight, for many reasons. The game was lost for us in the second quarter. We surprised Trabzonspor in the first minutes, but unfortunately the game changed in the second quarter, where we had problems to stop (Dwight) Hardy. We know that basketball is a team sport, but in the first half it felt like we played five against Hardy. In the second half, Coach (Nenad) Markovic was smart enough to use a big rotation, so they had more energy and power than us. With our team this year, we feel like we are the winners of EuroChallenge; the budget of the whole team is as big as some teams use for one player. Making the Final Four is a big success for the club and Romanian basketball."

Nemanja Milosevic, Energia Targu-Jiu
"We will watch the game video, analyse our mistakes and try to improve our game for Sunday to end this Final Four on a high."

Nenad Markovic, Trabzonspor Head Coach
"Congratulations to Energia. Although we won by 20 points, we have to give them credit; they played a good game. I somewhat expected that we would start the game heavy, slow, feeling emotional in front of our fans. We managed to gain an eight-point lead at half-time that gave us calmness for the second half. We controlled the second half, but we still need to react better on Sunday. Any team reaching the final wants to win. Nanterre are a good team, and we will prepare for the game in the best possible way."

Dwight Hardy, Trabzonspor
"We knew that Energia would come out hard, but they still surprised us. We started very slow, but eventually calmed down on defence and executed well on offence, playing the way we wanted to play."
