EuroCup Women » 2012Semi-Finals A Turkish-Russian Affair
Anna Petrakova, Dynamo Kursk's main offensive weapon with 18.2 points per game, is the leading scorer among the players who will appear in the semi-finals
The EuroCup Women Quarter-Final ties concluded on Thursday producing not only the Semi-Final pairs, but also an absolute certainty about the Finals.
That is because, no matter what happens in the Semi-Finals, the 2012 EuroCup Women two-leg Final will be between a Russian and a Turkish club.
Chevakata will take on unbeaten fellow Russian side Dynamo Kursk in the first semi-final tie, while Turkish sides Botas and Kayseri Kaskispor will battle it out in the other.
Dynamo Kursk had already become the first side to punch their ticket to the semis, by edging MBK Ruzomberok at home, 64-59.
The Russian side had also won the first leg in Slovakia, by a single point, but this was a hard-fought tie which the Slovak team came very close to winning after leading by as many as four points late in the game in Kursk.
On Thursday, Chevakata prevailed over Arras for the second time to set up the all-Russian semi-final.
Chevakata won 71-56 on the night to earn a convincing 24-point victory on aggregate over the French team.
Next up were the two Turkish sides.
First Botas, who were carrying a three-point lead from the first leg, saw off the valiant challenge of the youthful Gran Canarias and won 62-55 at home.
The last quarter-final had all the makings of a great thriller.
Kayseri Kaskispor travelled to France with a nine-point lead from the first leg and Hainaut Basket were leading by eight points, 57-49, eight minutes from the final buzzer.
The Turkish side though conceded only two more points until the end, scoring 10 of their own to end the game with scores tied, 59-59, and set up the all-Turkish semi-final.
The first leg of the EuroCup Women Semi-Final ties is on 23 February with the return legs one week later.
