Dat is nou jammer , maar de oudere grijze freeeeeking zebra`s en de
grijze duiven onder ons , weten meteen waar ik over heb.
Hij was een oude Yugo ... heet tegen woordig Servie .....
waar na de wijlen Wilt Chamberlain die 100 punten noteerde in een wed.
is hij de betewiste nr. 2 met 99 punten in een wed.

Maar ach ..... als je Korac zegt .... dan was het een eer om er in deze Cup te spelen van af 1972 , want als ge niet mee deed met the champions League
deed je mee aan de Korac Cup mee hier in Europa en de Fiba heeft het
volgehouden tot 2002 en ja in 1996 won Efes pilsen Istanbul deze Cup.

A man of many interests

Korac was an intelligent man, also kind and humble. He was a good electronics student. He was a prolific reader and he liked music - he owned an impressive record collection. He was also a fine chess player, loved sports clothing, frequented the theater and had many interests outside of basketball. He was born on November 5, 1938 in Sombor, in the Vojvodina region of present-day Serbia. After his family moved to Belgrade, his brother Djordje - who became a sculptor and made the famous left wrist of the Korac Cup trophy named after his brother - started playing football as goalkeeper at Radnicki Belgrade. Radivoj chose basketball and made his debut at OKK Belgrade at only 17 under Coach Stankovic. During the military service, Korac recorded a high jump record of 1.99 metres. With OKK he won four Yugoslav League titles and he was the competition's top scorer seven times, totaling 5,281 points. On the Yugoslav national team, he played 157 games an scored 3,153 points (averaging 20.8). He was also the top scorer in the 1968 Mexico Olympics, where Yugoslavia won the silver medal. He was top scorer in three Eurobaskets (1961, 1963, 1965) and was also the best scorer in the Italian League while playing with Padova (581 points) although his team was rather weak and was demoted to the second division. That's when Korac joined Standard Liege and became Belgium champ with the team in 1968-69, the last of his brilliant career. With Yugoslavia, he was also finalist in the World Championships of 1963 and 1967. At the 2007 opening of the FIBA Hall of Fame in Madrid, Korac was inducted with the very first class of honorees. The next year, Euroleague Basketball chose him as one of the 50 Top Contributors to European Basketball to celebrate the 50th anniversary of European competitions. The trophy was presented to his nephew, Marko, son of his brother Djordje. In his honor, FIBA started the Korac Cup in 1972, and when that competition was discontinued in 2002, the Serbian Federation gave his name to its national cup.

A few weeks ago, a movie about Radivoj Korac's life opened in Belgrade. It is a mixture of documentary, featuring comments by several people who knew Korac, together with cinematic re-enactments by professional actors in the roles of Korac and his friends. His life and passion to score baskets will be always remembered, as will the 99 points he scored against Alvik 46 years ago this week.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)
En el infierno del Abdi İpekçi, el Efes Pilsen logró imponerse al Stefane de Milán por ocho puntos de diferencia (76-68) en el primer partido de la final de la Copa Korać, lo que deja las espadas en todo lo alto de cara al choque de vuelta que se disputará en tierras italianas dentro de una semana. De la mano de un excepcional Petar Naumoski, el líder de la liga turca dominó durante la mayor parte del encuentro al conjunto lombardo, llegando a alcanzar una máxima ventaja de once puntos (40-29) a dos minutos del descanso. Ni el veterano Rolando Blackman, estrella del cuadro milanés, ni el multifuncional Dejan Bodiroga (base-escolta-alero) pudieron frenar los constantes uno-contra-uno del base macedonio, que constituyeron la base del juego de ataque del Efes Pilsen durante la primera mitad.

Tras el descanso, Bogdan Tanjević planteó una zona 1-3-1 que bloqueó el monótono sistema ofensivo del cuadro turco y le obligó a buscar soluciones en lanzamientos lejanos. Tuvieron que transcurrir cuatro minutos para que Naumoski (¿quién si no?) lograra la primera canasta del Efes Pilsen en la segunda mitad con un lanzamiento triple. Ante la falta de inspiración de Ufuk Sarıca, el Stefanel logró acortar las diferencias hasta empatar a 58 a nueve minutos del final. Los italianos parecían tener controlada la situación ―máxime con la acumulación de personales del pívot local Conrad McRae, relegado al banquillo― y se aprestaban a vivir un final de partido relativamente plácido. Sin embargo, el Efes Pilsen, jaleado incansablemente por los aficionados que abarrotaban el Abdi İpekçi, se recuperó en los minutos finales, y gracias a tres triples consecutivos de Naumoski logró una victoria por ocho puntos de diferencia (76-68) que le concede opciones de cara al encuentro de vuelta.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)
El Efes Pilsen se convirtió en el primer equipo turco en conquistar un título europeo tras hacer buenos los ocho puntos de diferencia logrados en el primer partido de la final de la Copa Korać. Por el contrario, la victoria pírrica lograda por el Stefanel de Milán en el encuentro de vuelta (77-70) fue insuficiente para obtener un título que se le escapó por segundo año consecutivo.

El resultado final resulta ciertamente engañoso, porque puede hacer pensar que los italianos estuvieron cerca de remontar los ocho puntos de diferencia que se trajeron de Estambul, cuando en realidad fue el Efes Pilsen el que dominó durante la mayor parte del encuentro. Los turcos, liderados otra vez por un imparable Petar Naumoski, que con sus triples rompió la defensa zonal del Stefanel en el inicio de la segunda parte, ganaban ya en el minuto 29 por 44 a 52. En un último esfuerzo, los locales lograron empatar a 62 en el minuto 35, y tres minutos más tarde consiguieron una ventaja de cinco puntos (74-69) que parecía abrirles las puertas del triunfo, pero acabaron pagando el esfuerzo anterior y en cuatro ataques consecutivos Blackman y Portaluppi fallaron otros tantos lanzamientos. El Efes Pilsen no tuvo excesivos problemas en contener los desesperados intentos del Stefanel, y un último triple de Gentile sirvió para establecer el resultado definitivo.
