web blog.

Groups for 2015 EuroLeague Women season set
EuroLeague Women draw took place on Sunday.
16 teams were split in two groups of eight teams. Each team will play seven home and away games. After that each group’s top four teams will advance to the quarterfinals. Best of three series winners will reach the Final Four. Host of the Final Four will be chosen among those four teams.
The draw gave plenty of storylines for the new season. UMMC Ekaterinburg will be able to redeem themselves for an embarrassing semifinal display during last years tournament against Galatasaray. And they will do that with the player who beat them in that game, Alba Torrens, playing for them. Speaking of former Galatasaray players, the draw was kind enough to pit Dynamo Kursk and their new point guard Isil Alben against her former team.
Before the season even starts each group has a trio of favorites. Group A – Ekat, Galatasaray and Prague, Group B – Fenerbahce, Orenburg and Bourges. In Group A the fight for the fourth place will likely be fierce among Kursk, Krakow and maybe Montpellier. In Group B Kayseri could be the favorites for that place, with Schio and Avenida right there to take advantage if they slip up.

EUROCUP WOMEN
EuroCup Women draw took place on Sunday.
In the first round teams were split in two conferences based on their geographic locations. For that reason in groups A through C are clear – the Turkish and Russian clubs. Group D in that regard is the far less certain – Russian club Spartak Noginsk was the last placed in Russia last season. Kibirkstis-VICI and Horizont have as good of a chance to reach the second round in Group D as anyone.
In Groups E through H the safe bets are French and Hungarian teams, though in Group E Castors Braine has a chance to sneak in the top two.
Each team’s first two placed teams will move on to the eightfinals. The teams for it will be seeded based on winning percentage. It’s unclear whether that will remain the case with one group having three teams. They could as well use the record against the top three teams in each group to determine that seeding like it was done in EuroLeague Women last season and in EuroBasket Women qualifiers this summer.
EuroCup Women season will start on November 6. Regular season will run until December 18. Eightfinals will be played on 15 and 22 January, quarters on 5 and 12 February, semifinals on 26 February and 5 March, finals on 19 and 26 March.
